Specialist Nutrition is Ireland’s leading provider of alternative and sustainable feed sources, performance supplements and nutrition expertise for healthy and thriving beef, dairy and pig herds. The company is unique in Ireland, providing brewery, distillery, and food/drinks manufacturing co-product as animal feed while also providing advice based on the latest nutrition science to ensure farmers get the most from their grazed grass and home-grown forage. Our range of moist feeds, liquid feeds, and minerals are formulated to optimise the use of farm forages, ensuring that our clients get the most value out of their available resources.
By repurposing co-products as highly nutritious moist and liquid animal feeds, we help our suppliers improve efficiency, reduce waste, and promote the circular economy in the food and agriculture sectors.
Our Story
Specialist Nutrition is a 100% Irish-owned and operated company based in Ballymountain, Co. Waterford. Founded in 1998, it is today part of the Arvum Group, a sixth-generation family business (dating to 1859), which also has its headquarters in Ballymountain.
1998
Specialist Nutrition is founded in Co. Waterford.
1999
Expansion with 20 agents across the Republic of Ireland.
2000
Specialist Nutrition becomes part of a joint venture with UK company AB Agri (owned by Associated British Foods Plc) in Co. Kildare.
2001
First moist feeds contract with Guinness Ireland Group for breweries in Dublin, Dundalk, Kilkenny, and Waterford.
Headquarters established in Ballymountain, Co. Waterford, with four additional staff.
2004
Significant contracts secured with Bushmills, Irish Distillers Limited, and Bulmers.
2010
Specialist Nutrition becomes part of a joint venture with UK company AB Agri (owned by Associated British Foods Plc) in Co. Kildare. Teelings Distillery (2015), Great Northern Distillery (2015) and Slane Irish Whiskey Distillery (2018) became partners of Specialist Nutrition.
2011
Wet feed mixing plants opened in Kilkenny and Galway.
2016
The supply of moist feeds from the brewing and distilling sectors in Ireland increased substantially.
2019
Expansion into the US market, opening an office in Syracuse, New York.
First US contract with an ethanol producer in Fulton, NY.
2021
Budweiser contract secured in the USA.
2023
Specialist Nutrition operates with 19 staff in Ireland, focusing on logistics, technical/nutrition consultancy, finance, and management. All freight operations are outsourced to haulage providers.
2025
Specialist Nutrition opens a second US office, this time in Madison, Wisconsin to serve the ethanol and brewing sectors.
