EornaSyrup

EORNASYRUP is a co-product of the manufacture of whiskey. EornaSyrup comprises mainly of yeast cells and residues from malted barley after alcohol is distilled off the fermented wort by the high temperature in the copper stills.

Dairy Cows: Can be fed in diet feeders; in concentrated mixes or trough feeders with maximum levels being 3.5-5kg/hd/day

Beef Cattle: Flexible in the way it may be offered with maximum feed rates being:

Young stock 0-1kg/hd/day

Stores 2-3kg/hd/day

Finisher 4-5kg/hd/day

Suckler Cattle: Has successfully been used as the sole ‘concentrate’ feed for incalf suckler cows on a straw diet. Additional energy may be required after calving

Liquid Feeds Handling & Storage Guide

  • Bulk Delivery: Typically arrives at 50-60C in 25-30t lots.
  • Unload Promptly – Transfer into storage tank immediately.
  • Make sure your tank is clean.
  • Make sure your pipework between your tank and the delivery truck is clean and free from any damage.
  • Tank Type: Typically, food-grade tanks with 4-inch pipework for easy pumping.
  • Location: Place tanks on level on a constructed plinth. Better if it the same height as your diet feeder so it can gravity feed into the feeder,
  • The tank should be sloped back to front to ease unloading and cleaning.
  • Ventilation: Tanks should be vented but protected from rain.Shelf Life: Up to 2 months if stored cool and dry.
  • Tanks should be emptied and cleaned after each load.
  • Species Suitability: Eorna Syrup is ideal for cattle/pigs but not for sheep.
  • Mixing – Can be mixed with silage or TMR (Total Mixed Ration) for improved intake.
  • Feeding Rate: Typically, 1–2 kg per head per day for adult cattle, depending on diet and performance goals. For pigs Eorna Syrup can be included up to 10% of the diet.
  • Runoff Risk: Prevent syrup from entering drains or watercourses.
  • Organic Farms: Not approved for organic livestock systems.
  • Rodent Control: Keep storage areas clean and covered to avoid attracting pests.
